TDC10 & TDC17 Now Fully Compatible with Nintendo Switch 2 – Tested with Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival

The Nintendo Switch 2 has officially launched, bringing exciting upgrades like 4K support, a 120 Hz OLED display, and improved hardware performance. Many of our players have asked the same question:

Are the TDC10 and TDC17 drum controllers compatible with the new Switch 2?

We’re pleased to confirm: Yes, both TDC10 and TDC17 are fully compatible with Nintendo Switch 2.

🎮 How to Connect Your TDC Drum Controller to Switch 2

To ensure the best compatibility and connection stability:

  1. Use the latest firmware:

    • TDC10: Version 2.32 or later

    • TDC17: Version 1.6 or later

You can update via the TDC Mate app (available on iOS/Android).

  2. (New Recommendation) In the TDC Mate app, go to Settings → Game Station and set it to “NS Switch”.

    • This increases recognition reliability specifically with Switch 2 and is strongly recommended for best performance.

We conducted a series of in-depth tests using the international version of the console, the latest Taiko title — Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival — and both the TDC10 and TDC17.

Here’s what we discovered:

🎮 Switch 2 vs. Switch 1: Taiko Gameplay Comparison

1. Game Launch Speed

Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival launches at similar speeds on both Switch 1 and Switch 2. Despite the hardware upgrade, loading times for this title remain unchanged.

2. Initial Compatibility Update

When starting Rhythm Festival for the first time on Switch 2, the system prompts an automatic game update. Be sure to install it to ensure full compatibility and performance.

3. Drum Controller Settings

TDC10 and TDC17 both work seamlessly on Switch 2. In Rhythm Festival, you can choose either:

  •

    “Pro Controller”

    “Drum Controller”

Both options function correctly on both Switch models.

🔹 We recommend selecting “Pro Controller” if you’re unsure — this setting offers the broadest compatibility across versions.

4. Gameplay & Input Performance

Switch 2 delivers solid support for advanced drumming techniques like fast rolls and edge hits. However, in our testing, performance in yellow note rolls (連打) and input accuracy were virtually identical to Switch 1. There’s currently no gameplay performance boost specific to Taiko.

5. Display & Refresh Rate

  • Handheld Mode:

    • Switch 1: 60 Hz fixed

    • Switch 2: Up to 120 Hz with VRR

(Game doesn’t currently make use of higher refresh rate.)

  • TV Mode:

    • Switch 1: 1080p @ 60 Hz max

    • Switch 2: Up to 4K @ 120 Hz

(No visible improvements in Taiko gameplay so far.)

6. Polling Rate

Both consoles use a 125 Hz USB polling rate, so players won’t notice lower input latency on Switch 2 — at least in the current version of Rhythm Festival.

✅ Final Verdict: TDC10/TDC17 and Switch 2 Compatibility

  • TDC10 and TDC17 work flawlessly with Nintendo Switch 2.

  • Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival is fully playable and stable on Switch 2, with no compatibility issues.

  • ⚠️ Performance improvements are minimal for now, as the game hasn’t been optimized to take advantage of Switch 2’s powerful hardware, higher refresh rate, or 4K output.

  • 🔍 We’re closely monitoring updates and future Taiko game releases to see how they evolve on the new platform.
